A pair of very flighty Rock Pipits where found (Anthus petrosus) |
This one was sprinting after some insect it had seen, at first we thought there might have been a nest close by , but the pair took off heading down the coast. |
Down in the harbour there was some distant Shell duck and Oystercatchers, nearer was this stalking Heron. |
The remains of an old pier at Maryport , now a home for nature. |
What lovely photos and it must be such a nice view from that sea side. Warm greetings to you!
ReplyDeleteHello, looks like a nice outing with your daughter. The birds are beautiful. Happy Friday! Wishing you a great day and weekend!
ReplyDeletenice shots :)
ReplyDeleteAww, that Pipit in the second photo was really "steppin' out." Made me smile.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Hello!:) Having a day out with your daughter and giving your dogs a good run, sounds like a good day out to me. I have never seen a Pipet,...the sprinting pipet made me smile also!! I am curious about your one time Jay pet!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!:)
Hello, Gordon! Beautiful birds and post. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful nature, I've never seen a Rock Pipit, fantastic.

ReplyDeleteCheck out my new blog design ~ Happy Weekend to you ~ ^_^
That's a nice part of the world Gordon. Btter still to have Rock Pipits breeding. Down here they are just winter visitors.
ReplyDeleteI love to see Herons stalking!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great week-end!
Loved the "sprinter!" :-) Great photos.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a lovely day with some god sightings of the pipits and heron!
ReplyDeleteHope the dogs enjoyed the beach!
I have some pictures of rock pipit from Maryport as well - probably the same family of birds! Crazy.

Love the capture and 'stance' of the pipit in motion!! And that pier remains composition is just awesome Gordon. Very artful and as you say now a part for natural home for someone new to discover!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this bit of your life of birding with wonderful narration and linking in this week at I'd Rather B Birdin'.
In my experience Rock Pipit seems to be very much wedded to harbours. Great bird to see.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post.
ReplyDeletePoignant picture of the old pier -- beautiful in its decayed state and if it serves as a home or shelter for wildlife I hope it lasts a long time. The running pipit and each of the bird pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs always loved it to run across the beach.
ReplyDeleteGood choice to go there with your daughter. The heron is beautiful and the remains of an old pier are beautifully photographed.
Many greetings, Helma
