Last set of pics from Mull

Near  the end of our week on Mull we decided to drive the full length of the Island down to Fionnphort where we caught the short ferry over to Iona. Its a fantastic drive first thing in the morning, for one thing we must have gone 30 miles at least before we saw another car. And the scenery is just fantastic driving through the great glen, wall to wall mountains. And then the great massive of Ben More eventually showing its self on the right as we drove South. Then we drove along the South side of Loch Scridain and past Pennyghael, Where Bryan Rains of http://begbits.blogspot.co.uk/  resides, and it was one of his tours we went on.
We eventually arrived at The ferry terminal and then the short ride across, just as we were docking I put my bins on a flock of Gulls that were feeding in the bay only to find that one of them was a Glaucous Gull. So as soon as I got off the ferry I made my way over to where the Gull was to try and get some pics. By the time I got within striking distance it had settled down on the water to have a wash and brush up.

Glaucous Gull.

Pity it hid its head.

Slight improvement

And we have lift off.

And back to the rocks for a rest.

Quite a beauty.
The rest of our time on Iona was spent looking for the illusive Corncrake, this turned out to be not only disappointing (as I didn't see one) but also annoying as Mrs W saw either the same bird twice or even worse two different birds. Needless to say I've never heard the last of it.
In one area while waiting for a Corncrake to show this little chappy but on a good display for us----

Sedge Warbler.

Lift off again.

Sedge Warbler

Singing its little heart out.
And lastly while waiting for the ferry to leave Mull and come home, a few of these bid us farewell

By flying round the ferry waiting area, at 7-30 in the morning.
It was a nice ending to a great week.

    1. Thanks once again Tammy, yes it was an awsome week of wild life watching. The banter about the Corncrake with Caroline my wife is always good fun. I do most of the driving on these trips, but Caroline is a terrific spotter and dosn't miss much.
Thanks again, and keep your pics coming they are brill. Gordon.
